Cloth Hall Court opens its doors to dedicated conferencing

Well Met Conferencing, the conference office at Leeds Beckett University, have officially opened for business with their brand new dedicated conferencing venue, Cloth Hall Court.

The city centre venue, sited just two minutes’ walk from Leeds Train Station, has undergone a £4.5m refurbishment to transform it into a state-of-the-art facility in the heart of the city.

Cloth Hall Court is a response to growing demand for Well Met’s offering, which has seen a revenue increase of 250% over the past five years. Its opening is also a timely reminder of Leeds recent promotion to fifth best conferencing city in the UK (BMEIS), with the growth of academic venues being cited as a key factor.

Chosen as the ideal location due to its close proximity to Leeds Train Station and the surrounding Leeds Business community, Cloth Hall Court is set to become a hub for business and enterprise in the city with four floors for conferencing space. The site also houses Leeds Beckett Enterprise Services, the Yorkshire division of the Institute of Directors and the newly formed Unity Partnership.

The refurbishment, which was commissioned to Sheppard Robson Architects and contracted to Overbury, transformed the former 18th century cloth trading site by drawing inspiration from its history with a range of comfortable, modern furnishings which reference the site’s industrial and textile heritage. These include the use of natural and recycled materials in the design, assigning room identities such as the Denim Room, Tweed Suite and Bobbin Gallery as well as the commissioning of a Leeds Beckett University Art project to produce works that capture the both venue and the city’s connection to the cloth industry.

Commenting on the opening, Clare Vidler, Conferencing Manager for Well Met, said:

“We’re delighted with the finished article and especially proud of the work that the Well Met team put into the finishing details, which are an integral part of the overall feel of Cloth Hall Court. Investing in fantastic facilities for our customers is something we’re constantly working to provide to a high level, and we feel that we’ve achieved this with Cloth Hall Court.

Moving into the dedicated conferencing environment with a brand new facility was initially daunting, so it’s with great pride that I can say that the transition over here from the University has been made all the smoother due to our fabulous team. We’re now looking forward to a busy few months welcoming visitors and guests and hosting some fabulous conferences.”
