Going Green for 2019
12 March 2019 - Well Met
When we talked about putting together our green DDR package, we realised that this is more than a trend. This is a necessity. So rather than adding a green option, why not just go all in? This year, all our DDRs are going green because great conferencing shouldn’t cost the Earth.
The period windows of the building maximise daylight, giving our rooms a light and airy feel and reducing the reliance on lighting and energy. The conference centre uses a Building Energy Management System (BEMS) to regulate temperature and ventilation, ensuring that the right amount of energy is used and that nothing is wasted. We’re also pleased to say that all the energy we use is generated from renewable sources.
Encouraging your guests to travel by public transport is easy too as Cloth Hall Court sits just over the road from Leeds Train Station, just over 2 hours from London and with direct connections from major train stations across the country.
For crisp, mineral-quality water, we filter ours onsite using a Vero® Water Purification System meaning no reliance on plastic bottles. Your tables will be stocked with a choice of great tasting cordials for your delegates to mix to their taste.
Our tea and coffees are FairTrade and our menus always include a vegan and dairy free option, helping to minimise our impact from meat and dairy production. Our chefs can provide delicious full vegan and vegetarian menus to promote and encourage a sustainable food culture at your event.
Where at all possible, our suppliers are local and have been selected because they fit our ethical procurement policies, cutting down on the carbon footprint and environmental impact of our service.
We supply all our brochures and correspondence electronically to save on time, paper and post, meaning you can share information easily with your colleagues and minimise the use of natural resources.
We’ve also invested in 360 images and video showrounds to give you the best view of our spaces remotely. Our sales team work with you to fully imagine your event and give you a tailored experience without you leaving the office, cutting your costs and your carbon footprint.
At Cloth Hall Court, all our refuse points have recycling and general waste options to encourage staff and guests to begin the sorting process at source. 98% of our general waste is diverted from landfill thanks to our partnership with waste contractor AWM.
To give our guest more paper-free conferencing options, we’ve invested in technologies like interactive flipcharts which allows guests to take snapshots of content and save them straight to their smart devices.
As a part of Leeds Beckett University, all profits are reinvested into the Institution, contributing to the local economy and supporting us in our vital teaching and research. We provide opportunities for Events Management students to get hands-on experience of the industry and benefit from connections with the pioneering UK Centre for Events Management.
We’ll also donate an additional amount of the value of your booking to a local charity, spreading the impact of your conference that little bit wider.
We want your suggestions on making meetings and events as sustainable as possible. If you’ve got a great idea or seen a great initiative elsewhere then share it with us and join us in our journey to becoming even greener! You can also take a look at our sustainability policy here.
