St Andrew’s Summer School Set to Enjoy Some Yorkshire Culture
29 June 2018 - Well Met
Well Met, the conferencing department of Leeds Beckett University, is getting ready to welcome over 200 students from St Andrew’s College Language Schools, to enjoy some Yorkshire culture throughout July.
St Andrew’s College Language School has years of experience providing young learners with English and cultural programmes. It has nine summer schools in Scotland and around London, and the summer school at Leeds Beckett, Headingley will be its first summer campus in the north of England. The purpose of the summer schools is to help students have a unique learning and cultural timetable that allows them to practice their language skills in an organised and interesting way.
The students, aged between 11-18, will take part in several activities such as sports, drama and dance workshops, and arts and crafts. They are really looking forward to getting to know Leeds and will be visiting lots of places throughout their stay, including Leeds City Museum, Leeds Art Gallery and the Royal Armouries. They’re also looking forward to experiencing Kirkstall Abbey, Lotherton Hall and York.
Elena Bueno Galan, General Manager, St Andrew’s College, said: “When we first visited Leeds Beckett University, we were very impressed by the beautiful Headingley campus, its grounds and the buildings full of character. The facilities are perfect for our sport, arts and performance activities. Leeds as a city is compact enough for our students to explore and it has a really friendly atmosphere.
“The team at Well Met were also very welcoming and professional and their previous experience in running summer schools gave us confidence that the summer camps would be a success.”
Leeds is becoming increasingly popular for a summer school option. While university students are away at home and residents head on holiday, the city becomes a haven for groups able to make the most of the facilities at Leeds Beckett and Yorkshire’s many cultural attractions.
Clare Vidler, Conference Manager, Well Met, said:
“Summer is an exceptionally busy time for us and summer schools and conventions are a key part of our business. Due to the variety of facilities and venues on our estate we can tailor our offering to suit the needs of our customers.
“Headingley campus has an enduring appeal with a variety of organisations due to its accessible location, excellent on-site facilities and beautiful setting. For many of our international summer school delegates, this is their first experience of Leeds, so we are working closely with organisers and partners across the city, to make sure they get the most from their stay.”
