In partnership with Microsoft, Superfast West Yorkshire Digital Skills Fund’s ‘Big Social Media Show’ arrived at Well Met on Monday 9 March. Held at Leeds Beckett’s Grade II listed James Graham Building, the event was attended by over 300 delegates and included key note speeches from Tom Riordan, Chief Executive of Leeds City Council, and Daniel Langton, Senior Business Development Manager at SMS&P Microsoft UK.
The day-long event included a series of short, sharp social media focused sessions on topics such as generating leads via social media, building the ideal social network and creating content for social media, as well as specialist sessions on social media tools such as Twitter, Facebook, Google+, LinkedIn and YouTube. An informal social media advice café also ran alongside the sessions, providing delegates with the opportunity to put questions about their own businesses to the experts.
Ben Taylor, events coordinator for Superfast West Yorkshire said:
“We considered several venues for this event, and the Great Hall and other rooms were exactly what we needed. As well as being a striking, prestigious venue, the space has all of the benefits of a University venue including top of the range AV and technology spec. We received excellent customer service from the team at Well Met who really helped to make the day a great success.”
Kate Davis, Head of Business Development for Campus and Residential Services at Leeds Beckett University comments:
“Well Met was able to meet and exceed the Big Social Media show’s requirements, including free high speed broadband, excellent AV facilities and free car parking. With more and more business being done online, we’re delighted to have hosted this event, which has provided local and regional companies with the skills and knowledge to reach a wider audience and make the most of the digital marketplace.”
Well Met is the first academic venue to achieve the Gold Accredited in Meetings status awarded by the Meetings Industry Association, and acknowledged as one of the most distinctive conference sites in the UK, which provided the perfect back-drop for the Big Social Media Show.
