Go beyond the everyday management of a business and learn how to lead people and develop their talent.
As part of your course you’ll:
- Learn how to take a strategic point of view and be the driving force behind a business
- See all the elements of a business and how to effectively manage and lead them - both within your organisation and your supply chain
- Be taught by staff with plenty of leadership experience, as well as those who have studied the subject academically to a Doctor of Business Leadership level
You’ll be taught by staff with high-level leadership experience that will aid and inform your learning and you’ll have access to guest lectures by industry visitors. Previous speakers have included John Timpson CBE, owner of Timpson’s Shoe Repairs, and barrister, politician and human rights activist Baroness Shami Chakrabarti.
The opportunity to undertake a work placement will help give you access to employers and enterprise expertise to support and develop your learning.

Your course is delivered through a number of modules, which will help you to plan your time and establish a study routine. Outside of your lectures, workshops and tutorials, a range of support is available to assist with your independent study. Our subject-specific librarians will be on hand to direct you to the specialist learning and study-skill resources. You’ll also be assigned an academic advisor to give you tailored feedback and support.

Due to the ongoing Covid-19 pandemic we are currently unable to advise on the mode of teaching for September 2021, however we will keep you updated and provide more information as soon as we can. We continue to follow government guidance and your teaching and learning will reflect the restrictions in place at the time of delivery. We currently anticipate that you may experience a blended approach – this is a mix of face-to-face, on campus and online teaching and learning. What you'll learn
Become familiar with key marketing principles and appreciate how contemporary marketing concepts are used by organisations. You will gain an insight into marketing challenges and the consequences for organisations that fail to become customer-orientated.
Examine how managers can understand and use different financial information. You will consider how shareholders can use financial statements as a means of evaluating a firm?s performance.
Explore the challenges business managers face in a globalised competitive environment. This module will enable you to experience the daily challenges of running a business first-hand through the use of business simulation software. You will understand the differences between public, private and third sector companies and the functions and departments of a business, as well as developing your problem-solving abilities.
Learn to use statistical methods to describe, present and identify the salient features of business data in order to develop your ability to make sound commercial decisions.
Learn about the people side of business. This module is structured into four main themes: motivation, management, leadership and teams. You will look at these within the context of culture, political environment, global working and intercultural competence.
Understand the essential economic tools and theories that enable business students to begin to identify the economic dimensions of the human condition in a business environment. The module will promote an understanding of the operation of key global markets and consider important worldwide macro-economic issues.
What you'll learn
Develop your understanding of the nature and complexities of managerial decision making including the tensions between ethics and cost effectiveness. You will study the role of cognition, perception and motivation in decision making and the managerial negotiation skills needed in effective decision making.
Examine complex businesses and organisations to determine how its operations and supply chain produce competitive advantage and improve performance. You will use a range of real-life scenarios along with qualitative and quantitative data to understand, apply and analyse concepts and principles from the field.
What you'll learn
Apply your learning to a strategic organisational issue of your choice. You will develop and manage a client-consultant relationship, and work in a group supported by a member of staff deliver outcomes for the client using the relevant academic knowledge, skills and critical thinking. This module will be delivered in collaboration with professional mentors, and investors and will add real-life value to your CV.
If you choose to study the Governance, Ethics & Corporate Social Responsibility module, you will explore the importance of ethical business decision-making, how the governance of firms should be organised and the consideration of stakeholders in developing approaches to the social responsibility of businesses. Alternatively, choose to apply for a work placement and start to develop your experience of the workplace.
Gain a critical understanding of organisations as a whole. You will develop the skills, knowledge and understanding to critically contribute to the strategies of any organisation by working with complex real-life business problems.
This course offers the opportunity to take a ‘sandwich’ year – a year of paid employment in industry which will build your skills and experience. This is usually taken between the second and third year of your degree, typically making your course four years in total.
Students who choose the sandwich route find it helps with both their studies and getting a job after graduation. It can build your confidence, contacts, and of course your CV. Leeds Beckett advertise lots of placement opportunities and provide support in helping you find the right placement for you.

Studying part-time gives you the flexibility to learn at your own pace. Because of this, our tuition fees are calculated using credit points. Each module you study has a credit point value. Most modules have a credit point value of 20. The tuition fee for students entering in in 2021/22 on this course is £1541.60 for each 20 credit point module. For modules with a different credit point value their cost can be calculated by multiplying the credit value of the module by the cost per credit point of £77.08. The amount you will pay may increase each year in line with inflation.

- Loan of high-end media equipment to support your studies

- Simulation suite, an on-campus system that will help you to develop effective leadership and group participant skills.
In many cases, costs associated with your course will be included in your course fee. However, in some cases there are ‘essential’ additional costs (those that you will be required to meet in addition to your course fee), and/or ‘optional’ additional costs (costs that are not required, but that you might choose to pay). We have included those essential or optional additional costs that relate to your course, below.

As well as your mobile phone, you will also need access to a desktop computer and/or laptop to complete assignments and access university online services such as MyBeckett, your virtual learning environment. You can book and borrow AV equipment through the media equipment service accessed online via the student hub and located in the library at each campus. Equipment includes: 360 Cameras, iPads, GoPros, MacBooks, portable data projectors, portable projection screens, flipchart stands, remote presenters, digital cameras and camcorders, SLR cameras, speakers, microphones, headphones, headsets, tripods, digital audio recorders and PC/laptops (a laptop loans service is provided on campus in the library on both campuses). Student laptops are also available from the laptop lockers located in the libraries.
