Applying for your language course

How to apply

Download an application form and email the completed version to ptlanguages@leedsbeckett.ac.uk. We are still accepting students to classes that have free spaces. If a class is full this will be indicated above. After the 16 December 2020, we will no longer accept applications. The latest joining date for students is the 4 January 2021.

On receipt of your application, we will email you to confirm your place, at which point you are officially enrolled on the course. If you do not wish to take up your place, you must follow the course withdrawal process. If you do not withdraw in writing before the end of the second week of teaching, you will continue to be enrolled as a student, remain on the mailing list for the duration of the course, and are liable for the full course fee. Please see below  for further instructions.

Covid-19 update

2020/21 Important Information

The university continues to review all of its modern language programmes and will do all that it can to minimise any changes to your studies.  However, there may be substantial changes to the modern language programmes, for example fee increases, changes in delivery mode or the discontinuance of programmes in academic years beyond those outlined above.

Due to Covid-19 and social distancing restrictions, all courses will be delivered online in the academic year 2020/2021.

We are working within government social distancing measures, so we are not planning to deliver teaching on campus throughout 2020/2021. The learning content you will receive will be as planned for the academic year 2020/2021 before the Covid-19 outbreak.

Course delivery for our Modern Languages Programme will be in three blocks of 10 weeks. You will receive weekly live classes delivered online using Microsoft Teams.

  • Block 1: 05 October 2020 – 11 December 2020
  • Block 2: 04 January 2021 – 12 March 2021
  • Block 3: 15 March 2021 – 11 June 2021

There will be no classes during the vacation periods at Christmas and Easter and on bank holidays.

Christmas vacation: 14 December 2020 – 03 January 2021

Easter vacation: 29 March 2021 – 18 April 2021.

If the University has to cancel a course (which can happen if there are insufficient students or through staff shortage), you will if possible be offered an alternative course or given a refund where payment has already been made.

You are fully enrolled on the course from the date on your confirmation email. From this date you are liable for the course fee unless you withdraw in writing. It is your responsibility to contact us, if you have not heard from us by the start of the course. Once you are enrolled all information about the course will be sent to your student email only. Please make sure that you check it regularly.

If you wish to withdraw from the course you must inform the course administrators in writing (email is preferred) or use the cancellation form. Withdrawals should be sent to ptlanguages@leedsbeckett.ac.uk, otherwise you will continue to be enrolled as a student, remain on the mailing list for the duration of the course, and are liable for the full course fee.

In accordance with Leeds Beckett University’s Student Regulations (Fee Schedule & Liability Policy 2020/21 – Section 4), there will be no refund for students who withdraw beyond the second week of teaching.

If you withdraw from a course after the second week of scheduled teaching, no refund will be given. If you withdraw during or before the second week of teaching, you will be given a full refund.

For 2020-2021, if your withdrawal email is dated later than Sunday 18 October 2020, you will be liable for the full fee amount of £425.

Where the confirmation email has been sent to you after the courses start on 5 October, we will refund the course fee, provided the withdrawal email has been received within 14 calendar days of the date of the confirmation email. If the withdrawal email is dated later than 14 days of the date of the withdrawal email, you are liable for the full course fee for that year.

A new application form is required for each new academic year.

Further information on the University’s terms and conditions and policies for students are located on the public information section of our website.

The fee for the academic year 2020/2021 is £425. If courses are run in future academic years, fees will be reviewed and may be increased. Information on how to pay for your course can be found on your confirmation email and here.

The accredited language programmes are closed to new entrants. The second year of the accredited programmes is taught for the final time in 2020/2021 only at a fee of £425. Continuing students wishing to enrol on the second year have been contacted in August with further details of the delivery of these courses and should check their LBU student email inbox.
