This module will allow you to provide safe, competent and effective radial arterial blood gas sampling.
Module content includes:
- Basic anatomy and physiology
- Identifying the arterial sampling site (including arterial sufficiency testing)
- Universal precautions
- Simulated practice
- Troubleshooting and complications
- Basic arterial blood gas analysis and documentation

Confirmation of support from your line manager, access to a supervising practitioner with experience and competence in 12 lead ECG and recording.
Tutor assessment throughout the session and in simulation. Students are provided with a competency profile to use as a framework within their practice to identify suitability to perform venepunctures.
