If English is not your first language, this subject-specific international foundation year is an ideal step towards degree-level education. It will give you the necessary academic English language ability and expertise to study an undergraduate degree in international tourism management within UK higher education. If you require a Student Visa, you will not be eligible for this integrated course and instead should apply for the non-integrated International Foundation Year.
As part of your course, you will:
- Build your intercultural awareness and self-confidence
- Work on your communication, maths, research and study skills
- Increase your skills in presentation, time management, problem-solving and planning
- Gain an understanding of university life in the UK
- Develop subject-specific knowledge
- Discover some of the fundamental principles of international tourism management
- Study the economic, socio-cultural and environmental impacts of tourism and how these can be effectively managed in a dynamic and changing world
We’ll help you improve your subject knowledge, academic and study skills through projects, essays and practical exercises. You’ll be assessed by a mixture of coursework and classroom tests.
Academic support
You’ll be given access to online self-study resources and matched with an academic advisor who will offer you guidance throughout the course.
Expand your network
You’ll have a chance to meet students across the wider university through:
- Joining clubs and societies
- Taking part in university sport and active lifestyle activities
- Volunteering
- Becoming an international student ambassador
- Course representative opportunities
Class study
There will be a minimum of 15 hours classroom-based, daytime study per week across both semesters. This is in addition to a recommended 15 hours of self-study per week.
Your timetable will be provided at induction. Classes could be timetabled any time between 09:00-18:00 Monday to Friday. There will be no classes on national holidays.
Class size
