Adopt a critically reflective and child-centred approach to teaching and working with children. You’ll earn a degree in two years and be primed to undertake a qualification to achieve Qualified Teacher Status (QTS).
As part of this course, you’ll:
- Gain an understanding of the challenges, complexities, and rewards of Montessori primary education
- Develop your professional identity as an emerging Montessori practitioner, working with children across the 3-11-year age range
- Understand how children learn from a psychological, philosophical and sociological perspective
- Observe Montessorian practice and develop your own professional approach to teaching and learning
- Develop models of best practice by creating inclusive, favourable and enabling environments
This course is ideal if you’re looking for a career change, particularly if you’d like to become a primary school or Montessori teacher.
Achieving QTS
You’ll obtain an undergraduate degree in two years, enabling you to apply for a School Direct or other postgraduate course in order to achieve QTS. Our ties with local schools mean that we can fully prepare you for your School Direct or Postgraduate Certificate in Education (PGCE) interview.
Join a global community
You'll engage in a global, online community through a range of lectures, seminars and independent study. This course will enable you to work with colleagues from around the world through our online, distance learning provision. Your research will explore a variety of issues and theories relating to primary or early years education. You’ll join a community of like-minded peers and teaching experts from the Carnegie School of Education. Our specialist team draws together academics and practising professionals from the International Montessori Institute.
Your professional practice
On this course, you’ll also undertake professional practice in a setting local to you. This experience will inform your learning and provide the opportunity for you to apply your knowledge and develop your confidence, planning and teaching skills.
We have partnered with the Montessori St Nicholas Charity, schools, settings and institutions to ensure your learning is informed by the very latest practices. The partnership will offer the opportunity to plan your own cross-curricular lessons and teach children.
