Developed in response to the government's drive for a more physically active and healthier nation, this course will equip you with the knowledge, experience and skills to thrive in the field of physical activity, exercise and health.

As part of your course, you’ll:

  • Examine the key disciplines of the exercise sciences and physical activity policies, from the causes of disease, to behaviour change strategies
  • Look at the design of interventions which promote and enhance the nation's health through prevention and treatment
  • Learn to design and deliver your own physical activity, exercise and health programmes that can have a lasting and positive impact on people's lives

You’ll have the opportunity to undertake the internationally recognised Register of Exercise Professional qualifications, ensuring that you’re competitive within the job market.

Work ready skills
You’ll develop the key skills recognised by employers, which include communication, information technology, personal development, problem solving and teamwork.

Furthermore, you’ll gain the leadership and planning skills to design your own physical activity schemes which effectively prescribe and promote healthy lifestyle initiatives to tackle obesity, cardiovascular disease and diabetes.

Previous students have worked on exciting and beneficial projects, such as investigations into the promotion of men's health through premier league football clubs, the effectiveness of programmes designed to impact risk factors for diabetes or obesity, and physical activity and health programmes in the workplace.

This course focuses on planning your future career and developing an impressive CV. Through our extensive industry networks, we’ll help you to organise work experience opportunities which best suit your future career ambitions. Previous students have taught in primary and secondary schools, coached groups from different backgrounds, worked on healthy eating initiatives, research projects, and have also done placements abroad at weight loss clinics and camps.

You can also boost your CV by gaining nationally recognised sporting qualifications such as Coaching Certificates available at the university.
