CORONAVIRUS (Covid-19)

Legal restrictions ended on Thursday 24 February as the UK begins to treat Covid-19 as we do other infectious diseases, such as flu.

The health, safety and wellbeing of our students, staff and the wider community remains of the highest priority to us. We've worked hard to make everyone feel safe and confident about being on campus.

In line with the government’s living with Covid-19 plan, we ask all members of the university community to be considerate and adopt safe behaviours to reduce the spread of the virus, by getting vaccinated; letting in fresh air if meeting indoors; wearing a face covering in crowded or enclosed spaces; staying at home if you’re feeling unwell; and washing your hands regularly. Thank you for continuing to play your part.

For more details of the measures we’re keeping in place to protect staff and student wellbeing, including the most vulnerable members of the university community, please see below.

Students and staff are encouraged to open windows in rooms where possible. All mechanically ventilated spaces are set to operate at optimum air changes per hour with no recirculation.

Mechanical ventilation is as safe as an open window. Our systems draw fresh air in from outside, filter it and supply it to the rooms. It is not mixed with extracted air in any way and the quality of the air is monitored at input, output and in many individual rooms across both campuses.

We encourage all students and staff to maintain good hand hygiene, wash their hands frequently and use the hand sanitisation stations available in buildings.

Cleaning kits are provided in social learning spaces across campus. This is in addition to our enhanced cleaning regime and 400 sanitisation points around campus. The kit may contain one or more of the following items: Disinfectant spray, sanitising wipes, soft blue paper roll, hand sanitiser gel bottle 500ml. Please use this to clean any work areas before and after use.

The government’s living with Covid-19 plan advises ‘wearing a face covering in crowded and enclosed spaces, especially where you come into contact with people you do not usually meet, when rates of transmission are high’.

You can check the definition of clinically extremely vulnerable groups and find further information on the Government website.

If you are a member of staff, please speak to your line manager.

If you are a student, please contact student services.

For students: If you are experiencing symptoms of long Covid, the disability advice team can provide confidential advice and support that will enable to access your studies.

To access support you should register with us as soon as possible. As part of the registration process you will be asked to upload evidence of your diagnosis. If you have difficulties getting evidence or don’t have any, please still complete the form and we will provide further advice.

For more information you can email Disability Advice on disabilityadvice@leedsbeckett.ac.uk or ring 0113 81 25381.
