Facilities and services

Information for colleagues about access to facilities including the libraries, sports facilities, food outlets and the mail service.

Plus Icon Can I access the library?

The Libraries are open for students to book an individual study space from 09:00 - 21:00 Monday to Friday and 11:00 - 17:00 on Saturday and Sunday. There are a limited number of individual study spaces which you must book via our Book a Study Space page. Short visit appointments are also available if you need to print.

The Library service is open online with the Library website giving you access to thousands of electronic resources and online help and support. Library and IT Advice is available 24/7 by phone (0113 812 1000) or chat ( and on our IT Support pages.

Can I borrow and return books?
Yes, you can borrow books from the Library via our Click and Collect service. Reserve on the Catalogue and then book an appointment to collect from either campus. Please ensure you follow all the steps in this process and have an appointment to collect your books before you come to the Library. You can return books to collection points in either Library during the opening times above.

Plus Icon How do I organise larger deliveries and courier services?

Courier services for outgoing items can be requested using the Courier Services Details form
For small and medium sized deliveries, couriers can no longer deliver directly to offices. Small and medium sized courier deliveries should be sent to our City Campus mail room and addressed as follows: Recipient name, building and room number, c/o Leeds Beckett University Mail Room, G20 Calverley Building, Portland Way, Leeds LS1 3HE. Please also complete the Request to Receive Small or Medium Sized Deliveries form, providing 48 hours’ notice where possible. For any queries, please email: 
For larger deliveries, please complete the Request to Receive Large Deliveries form, providing 48 hours’ notice where possible. You will need to attend site to receive your goods in person. Our Security team can then assist by managing building access. 

Plus Icon Will mail rounds take place?

Outgoing mail is franked and posted from our City Campus mail room on a weekly basis. Drop-off or collection services from both campuses can be requested for this service. 

Incoming mail is being sorted ready for collection from mail rooms on both campuses. Your service or school is requested to nominate a colleague to collect your area’s mail from the relevant campus mail room. You can request a time slot for the collection of mail using the Mail Room Booking form

Plus Icon Can I get food on campus?

Our cafes and shops are offering a range of grab and go food and drinks and are only accepting contactless payments. If you are buying hot food or hot drinks to take away you will have to wear a face covering. We want to keep staff and students safe at tills and order points so you may be asked to wait until other customers have moved through and it is safe to enter. Social distancing measures are in place in seating areas and you will be asked to leave your details, for test and trace purposes.

The Carnegie Sports Centre at Headingley Campus is now open.

The swimming pool at Headingley Campus and the City Campus gym will remain closed until further notice.

Plus Icon Can I become a member?

Yes, we have two types of memberships available for colleagues. You can pay a monthly fee of £11.50 for a single membership or a monthly fee of £22 for a family membership. The memberships are a rolling monthly contract. Find out more on our Sport & Active Lifestyles colleague pages.

Plus Icon I'm already a member but not ready to return. Can I continue to freeze my membership?

Yes. You can request to extend your freeze period by emailing the team, who will then process your request.

You can cancel your membership by emailing the team, who will then process your request.

Plus Icon Do I need to book in advance?

Yes. All activities in the sports centre will require you to book before you arrive. You must also have a Sport & Active Lifestyles membership.

Members can book one activity per day, with each activity having a designated time limit. Please arrive no longer than five minutes prior to your booking to help maintain social distancing and reduce crowding.

Once you have completed your activity you will need to leave the sports centre and campus, unless you have a timetabled lesson, study space or library booking.

Plus Icon How can I book an activity?

You can book into the sports centre through the following methods:

  • Download the Leeds Beckett Fitness app - available to download for free from Google Play and Apple Store, search ‘Leeds Beckett Fitness’.
  • Online bookings website

To be able to book via the app or the website you will need to be a member of Sport & Active Lifestyles and will need to register your account on the app or website. You can register by creating an account using the email address you used to buy your membership with (your Leeds Beckett work email address) and by creating a unique password for the app. Once you are registered on the app you can access its features. Read the last page of our user guide for further details of how to register.

Plus Icon What activities are available?

  • Gym - three gym areas available including a cardio room, strength & conditioning suite and functional fitness area.
  • Fitness classes - virtual classes only, view fitness class timetable
  • Athletics track
  • Athletic Union training sessions and trials. All sessions are operating within the Government's organised sport and social distancing guidelines.

Plus Icon Can I take part in group fitness classes?

Due to Leeds becoming a very high alert (tier three) area we are not able to offer group fitness sessions in person. We are, however, still offering fitness classes online, with live virtual classes available through our Facebook page.

Plus Icon Will changing facilities be available?
No. The sports centre changing facilities will remain closed. You will need to come ready to train in your sportswear and bring your own water bottle as the water fountains will be out of use. You will be able to purchase bottled water from reception.

The team have taken extra precautions in ensuring the sports centre will be a Covid-19 secure environment.
