Work is currently underway to develop a new high-tech Biochemistry and Microbiology laboratory in the Calverley Building. Rooms 914 and 915, which are currently empty office spaces, will be transformed into a new research laboratory for the School of Clinical and Applied Sciences.

The laboratory is an addition to the existing biomedical laboratory located on the 9th floor of the Portland Building. The expansion will provide dedicated research space for both our PhD and MSc students in biomedical sciences.

The project is a full refurbishment of the current space and will include the installation of a wide range specialist research equipment including: ultracentrifuge; -80°C lab freezers; AKTA protein purifier; NanoSight (for scientific analysis of nanoparticles); and a range of high spec worktops and lab benches. The purchasing of a variety of cutting-edge equipment will allow biomedical researchers to improve the quality of their research outputs and enhance the School’s contribution to the next and future Research Excellence Frameworks.
