A new suite of interview and control rooms has been developed in the Portland building to support the increasing student numbers on our Psychological Therapy and Mental Health courses. The new facility will allow students to practise and develop advanced therapeutic communications skills, including a range of counselling, interviewing and focus group techniques, in a peer learning environment.

Each interpersonal skills room is equipped with specialist recording facilities, giving students the unique ability to record and take away footage of their own practise for reflective analysis and skills improvement. Each space is also fitted with two way mirrors, and DVD and audio links between rooms, enabling observational studies of their peers’ interaction and interviewing techniques. The suite also includes the provision of a dedicated cognition and perception room, which is designed for those undertaking research into memory, thinking, reasoning and how our senses process various stimuli.
