Margaret Atwood’s The Handmaid’s Tale and The Testaments: Dystopia and Women’s Writing
The first event in the Leeds Cultural Conversations series 2019/20. Presented by Professor Susan Watkins.

Leeds Cultural Conversations - Dystopia and Women’s Writing The first event in our Leeds Cultural Conversations series attracted people from all over Leeds, eager to hear about Margaret Atwood’s follow up to The Handmaids Tale, The Testaments.

This talk will reflected on the impact and legacy of Margaret Atwood’s 1985 novel The Handmaid’s Tale, the popularity of women’s dystopian fiction and also offer some early thoughts on The Testaments, the eagerly-awaited, booker prize-shortlisted sequel to The Handmaid’s Tale, published in September 2019.

This event is part of the Leeds Cultural Conversations series organised by the Centre for Culture & the Arts at Leeds Beckett University.
