Lift Off Festival 2018


Lift Off Festival is a three-week festival showcasing the creative work of our students from the School of Film, Music & Performing Arts.

This year we are thrilled to announce that the Lift Off Festival is teaming up with Leeds International Festival and will feature as part of their programme of events.

All of our events are free to attend and do not require tickets.

Film

Portland Wall Showcase

  • A collection of work from the school will be displayed on the University’s new entrance to the Portland Building at city campus.

Music Performance

From 23 April - 2 May there will be a selection of music performances from our first, second and third year students across the city.

  • Monday 23 April, 19:30
    Hyde Park Book Club, 27-29 Headingley Lane, Leeds LS6 1BL
    Singer-songwriter, solo and duo acts

    Expect Nick Drake/John Martyn style sounds featuring talented Australian singer songwriter Campbell Messer, soul, rock, and indie solo acts, ambient sounds from the talented duo of Jasmin Mirchinson and Tommy Wilson and finishing with the band Virgil Kane with The band-influenced music from Guitar, Banjo, Mandolin and vocals

    Smokestack, 159A Lower Briggate, Leeds LS1 6LY
    Soul, Pop, Blues, Funk, Latin (Nuyorican soul, Cuban styles, Tango).

    Good times music featuring soul, funk, Latin, blues and jazz from larger bands. Music as diverse as the Gotan Project Tango, Queen, the Andrews Sisters, New York boogaloo, Cuban son, soul, funk and jazz.

    DJ, ambient, tech, electro-pop and bands

    Electro pop night with talented duo Anzia, bandleader and singer Rowan Thorsby with her band 'Paradeis, DJ Rastamatt and psychedelic ambient rock from 'Palmtree postcard' + more

  • Wednesday 2nd May
    The Library, 229 Woodhouse Lane, Leeds LS2 3AP
    Rock, Indie, K-Pop & Metal.

    Indie rock night with heavy rock from 'Whales', K pop from the Natalie Soo band, Adam Henderson's 'Without' and metal band 'Passiondown to finish.
