Voices from the Vaults: in search of spoken language from the past

In his professorial inaugural lecture, Professor Ivor Timmis will explore the vivid, poignant and funny insights of late eighteenth and early nineteenth century records of spoken language.

Join us for this inaugural lecture as Professor Ivor Timmis opens the vaults to discover late eighteenth and early nineteenth century sources, often neglected by linguists, to offer remarkable records of spoken language from the past.

Apart from the linguistic and historical interest, these sources offer insights which are often vivid and poignant, and sometimes funny.

Ivor Timmis is Professor in the Department of Languages at Leeds Beckett University.

This lecture is part of Leeds Beckett University's Professorial Inaugural Lecture Series
