An Imperial Education: African Students in Victorian Britain

As part of a series of events to recognise Black History Month, this talk will consider the experiences of Africans and people of African descent who travelled to and resided in Britain for educational purposes in the nineteenth century.

Dr Robert Burroughs explores what challenges and opportunities awaited those who ventured to study in the heart of the empire - using examples which all stem from one remarkable experiment in imperial education, the Congo (later African) Training Institute of Colwyn Bay, North Wales.

NO BOOKING REQUIRED, PLACES WILL BE ALLOCATED ON A FIRST COME FIRST SERVED BASIS
