PsyCen Seminar- Sexual exploitation of children in online interactions: A presentation of collaborative work of Juliane Kloess and Sarah Seymour-Smith

Speaker- Dr Sarah Seymour-Smith Nottingham Trent University

This talk focuses on the manipulative strategies employed by offenders in real-world chat logs (Kloess et al., 2015). Our findings demonstrate four patterns; directness in initiating online sexual activity; pursuing sexual information; the next step; and fantasy rehearsal. The talk will also introduce work in progress, which focuses on the discursive strategy of ‘deal-making’ employed in a further data set (Seymour-Smith & Klosess, forthcoming).
