Kick-start your university year with a bang! With each event tailored for all abilities, there's simply no better way to socialise than with a face full of neon paint and friendly competition.
Picture the scene, the lights will go out, the courts will be glow and the music will be pumping. Places are limited so please book early to avoid disappointment.
To maximise participation, all Volleyball games will be played in 5 V 5 format. We will try our best to keep groups of friends together but be prepared to mix and play games with and against everyone else at the session.
This event is open to all abilities, all we ask is that you wear something bright or white and the rest is taken care of.
All participants must wear clothing which will allow them to be clearly visible under the UV lights. Anything that fluoresces will work - think bright colours, or simply wear a white t-shirt!
At a minimum players should wear:
- white / bright coloured t-shirt
- shorts (any colour)
- light coloured, non-marking, trainers i.e. no black / dark trainers!
No, all equipment will be provided. However, if you have your own equipment please feel free to bring them. Please be aware we are not responsible for the loss or damage of any personal equipment at the event.
This is a social event designed to provide a unique way for players to play sport in a fun, quirky environment. As such we expect all players to mix and play games with and against everyone else at the session, so be prepared to mix and play with different people.
We will have four courts available that will be lit by UV cannons, strategically placed around the hall. UV tape will be placed on the floor, marking out the court lines.
The event is open for all Leeds Beckett students to attend. However, we recommend that participants know the basic rules and have some knowledge of the activity. Assistants will be placed on each court to help with scoring and answer any questions you may have.
No, the UV lights should provide enough "visible" light. Plus a few of the main sports hall lights are likely to remain on in a "dimmed emergency lighting" mode which will provide additional illumination.
If you have a medical condition diagnosed by a GP that neon/flickering light would have an adverse effect on you will not be allowed to participate in this activity.
At all our events we will also provide a UV free area, where participants can take a break from the UV lighting during the event and return when and if, they feel ready to do so. If you are feeling unwell at any point during the event please make event staff aware.
I'm afraid we cannot accommodate spectators inside the sports hall during the event. We have limited capacity in the halls and we want to keep the space around the courts as free as possible.
The event is being organised by Craig Robinson from the Sport and Active Lifestyles team at Leeds Beckett University. Alongside students from our Athletic Union clubs. If you have any specific questions, please contact Craig on Craig.firstname.lastname@example.org.
