self-isolation guidance and support

In order to support your arrival in Leeds, we are providing guidance and self-isolation support packages for all new and returning international students.

Self-isolation guidance

What you must do when you arrive in England from abroad depends on your Covid-19 vaccination status and where you have been in the 10 days before you arrive. These categories determine whether or not you have to quarantine and when you will need to provide a Covid-19 test.

Changes to international travel rules

The UK government has announced that from 4am on Monday 4 October 2021, the rules for international travel to England will change from a red, amber, green traffic light system to a single red list of countries and simplified travel measures for arrivals from the rest of the world. The rules for travel from countries and territories not on the red list will depend on your vaccination status, as described on the UK.GOV website.

All travellers from red list countries regardless of vaccination status will still have to enter mandatory quarantine in a government-managed quarantine hotel, and your travel test package will include a test on days 2 and 8. Visit the Red List FAQs for more information.

See below for information about support packages for Red country arrivals, as well as for Amber country arrivals (up until 4 October 2021).

Self-isolation support packages

“Red list” arrivals – funded quarantine package

We are looking forward to welcoming you to Leeds for the start of your course, and want to limit the impact of the UK travel guidance on your arrival.

If you'll be in a red list country in the 10 days before you travel to the UK, you will be required to quarantine in a Government managed hotel. Leeds Beckett will provide a fee discount equal to the cost of your hotel quarantine package. The contribution will take the form of a fee discount and not an upfront payment. This will be applied after full enrolment and upon production of a receipt of the quarantine package booking. The total financial contribution will be £2,285 for students arriving from 21 August 2021.

You will need to pay for the Government quarantine and test package prior to traveling to the UK. Upon completion of your 10-day hotel quarantine stay, you will submit your receipt to the university to receive your fee discount. To allow us to check your eligibility, please upload a copy of your quarantine package booking receipt to your Online Welcome account in the section named ‘Upload a copy of my passport/visa’. When asked to select file-type, please select ‘Other’ and then give the document a suitable title (for example, ‘quarantine package booking receipt’).

This document will then be checked during your International Check-in appointment. If eligible, the fee discount will then be applied.

To find out more, including which countries are on the red list and how to make a booking, please visit the UK Government website.

Please note:

  • We will not cover the costs of quarantine for family members or dependents
  • This financial support is available to new and continuing students, however it is only available once, when you arrive in the UK for the start of your course. If you leave the UK at any point during the year, you will have to pay any further quarantine hotel costs yourself when you return

Staff and students will be available to support you virtually during your quarantine period and you will be able to access our meet and greet service once your quarantine period is finished.

self-isolation wellbeing support

To make sure we are supporting students in the best way possible, we will contact all students who are self-isolating to check on their welfare and offer practical and emotional support. We will also make sure that all students know how to access our mental health and wellbeing services while isolating.

  1. Ordering groceries online

While you’re self-isolating, you will not be able to go to the grocery store. Most big supermarkets in Leeds offer an online delivery service. You will need a credit/debit card or PayPal account to order online. Please watch the video for an example of how to order groceries from Morrisons.com
