starting your course

We understand that in the current situation you may not be able to arrive in Leeds for the start of your course.

Don’t worry - you will be able to start your course online initially, before travelling to the UK and joining your course in Leeds.

You may have applied for or are intending to apply for a visa to travel to the UK to study, but may not yet have your visa, or are currently unable to travel. Therefore, if you are travelling to the UK at a later date in the semester, you do not have to complete International Check-in until you arrive in the UK. However, it is very important that you still complete your Registration and Enrolment and start your course online. You will receive an email with instructions on how to do this.

If you will not be able to arrive in the UK for the start of your course, it is very important that you keep us informed. Please send one email (but include both addresses) to:

Online Enrolment and International Check-in

After accepting your offer, it's important to complete your enrolment on the Online Welcome & Registration system in order to begin your course.

After registering for an Online Welcome account, you'll need to upload pictures of your passport and visa (if you've received it).

After entering the UK, you'll need to upload an image of the entry stamp on your visa to your account. You'll also be invited to book an online international check-in appointment when you arrive in the UK.

Please contact our SIAC team with any questions.

Online Welcome

If you have a Student Visa or require any other type of immigration permission to be in the UK, you will need to book an online international check-in appointment.

Prior to your arrival in the UK, the Student Immigration Advice & Compliance (SIAC) team will email you with an invitation to complete our short online arrival questionnaire. Instructions on how to access this will be provided. It is important that you complete the questionnaire so that SIAC can provide you with the correct advice. Once you have done this, you will be sent a further email with instructions on how to book your appointment for International Check-in. If you have any questions, please contact the Student Immigration Advice and Compliance team at Leeds Beckett University on: siac@leedsbeckett.ac.uk.

If you chose the University as your Alternative Collection Location (ACL) to collect your Biometric Residence Permit (BRP):

Further to the Government’s announcement of a national lockdown on 5 January 2021, our BRP collection appointments have been suspended until further notice.  This measure has been taken for the protection of our students, staff and the wider community.  Your safety and wellbeing is our priority.

If the University has received your BRP, you will be able to view it by logging in to your Welcome account (Under the “My Links” heading, and “Upload a copy of my passport/visa”). We will keep your BRP in a secure place until we are able to resume face-to-face appointments. If there is no BRP in your Welcome account, it means we have not yet received it from the UKVI.

Please be assured that, currently, most activities such as opening a bank account (online), registering with the police and registering with a doctor do not require you to produce a BRP.

If you have any questions, please contact our Student Immigration Advice and Compliance (SIAC) team on siac@leedsbeckett.ac.uk
