Alumni from China
Zhe graduated in 2009 with an MA in International Business. He says that the course improved his confidence in English speaking and writing, and he has gone on to work as an English teacher, working with students who want to study abroad and preparing them for the IELTS English Language Test.
Zhe chose to study at Leeds Beckett because he wanted to become fully immersed in English culture. “To British culture lovers, studying in the UK is the best way to get a purely authentic English experience. Less than two years of studying in the UK was enough for me to love the Premier League, develop an English accent, and join a weekly football team!”
Advice for Chinese students
“My advice for Chinese students coming to Leeds Beckett is to become friends with students from different countries, so you can improve your English communication skills. To succeed academically, I recommend two simple steps: preview and review. When you preview your reading and course materials, you will be able to follow along with the tutor more easily. Afterwards, you can review what you have learned to strengthen your knowledge and prepare for exams."
Lei graduated in 2013 with an MSc in International Tourism and Hospitality Management. This course focused on research in the tourism management, and prepared him to become a lecturer in Tourism at Qingdao Ocean Shipping Mariner's College in the Foreign Language department. In this role, Lei works to prepare students to work aboard foreign shipping vessels.
Lei was attracted to Leeds Beckett because of the city’s thriving international environment and fantastic location, only two hours north of London. He also wanted to have the opportunity to speak English as much as he could and become immersed in English culture. “Leeds is a very fashionable city with a lot of shops and restaurants. It also has great transport links, making it easy to travel anywhere in the UK."
Studying at Leeds Beckett
Lei found the University facilities to be modern, and the professors were knowledgeable and helpful. He would recommend Leeds Beckett University to Chinese students: “Do some research about the UK university teaching system, as it is very different from China. I have nice memories of my time at Leeds Beckett, and look forward to visiting the campus again in the future.
