ba (hons) sport business management
Pursue a career in sports business management by gaining an understanding of the economic, legal, and media issues around sport.
Blend your passion for sport with business management expertise and real-world leadership skills. You will examine key business areas, including marketing, finance, economics, enterprise, strategy and events management, and their relationship with sport. A focus on digital analytics in big business will provide key skills that support today's global businesses.
You will learn about the increasing professionalisation of sport, investigate the requirements of governance and explore how the changing needs of the consumer have transformed it into one of the most lucrative industries in the world. Millions of pounds are spent each year on broadcasting rights, licensing and merchandising and this course has been designed so you can seize these new and exciting opportunities.
This course offers the opportunity to take a sandwich year; a year of paid employment in industry which will build your skills and experience. This is usually taken between the second and third year of your degree, typically making your course four years in total. Students who choose the sandwich route find it helps with both their studies and getting a job after graduation. It can build your confidence, contacts, and of course your CV. Leeds Beckett advertise lots of placement opportunities and provide support in helping you find the right placement for you.
We work closely with organisations such as Leeds City Council, Leeds Rhinos and the Rugby Football League who have offered full-time employment to many of our students following their work placements. There are also opportunities to volunteer at major global sporting events - previous events have included the Commonwealth Games, the Olympics and the Paralympics.
You'll have the chance to travel and study abroad through our exchange programme with partner universities in Australia, America, Canada and Europe.
Each year we host an employability fair where you will be able to speak directly with employers from major leading organisations from the world of sports business. It is a chance to get your foot in the door early and know about all the job opportunities available whether it is for your placement or after you leave university.
Along with the employability fair, we also hold regular career sessions providing you with support with developing your CV, writing cover letters to employers and interview practice and those all important essential tips to get you ahead in the job market.
We believe it is of paramount importance to continually communicate and motivate our students. With this in mind we use various types of social and interactive online media to encourage you to actively engage and focus on your studies by using Facebook, podcasts, video streaming and e-portfolios.
Sport volunteering opportunities
We offer a sport volunteering programme for anyone with an interest in sport.
