International student Q&A | Gonçalo
What are the 5 best things about studying in Leeds?
- All the parks and green spaces
- British culture
- Societies and student life
- The facilities
- The teaching model of the university, who care about the students
What are your plans for the future? How do you think your time at Leeds Beckett will help you achieve them?
The fact that my course is accredited by both the Institute of Biomedical Sciences and Royal Society of Biology opens up a lot of doors for working. After the 3 years of the Biomedical Sciences course, I plan to engage in a training programme with the NHS.
Have you received support as a student?
When I first got here I used the meet and greet service from the international team which was super useful, and helped me feel supported and less alone in a whole new country. There are lots of people from very different countries in Leeds, which makes me want to explore the world and be open to more things!
What advice would you give to someone from your country thinking of studying or currently studying in the UK?
Everything seems so complicated in the beginning, but it will be much easier than you expect. Globalisation helps make the culture shock less noticeable, and the university offers a lot of support to make international students feel integrated in their new home.
