Leave a legacy

Every graduate has a story to tell. What will yours be?

Beyond Beckett

Leeds Beckett means many things to many different people, and our university is made up of countless memories and experiences that reach beyond Beckett.

As a modern university we have almost 200 years of history. Our activities and endeavours in this time have not only had positive impacts on us as an institution, but have also been transformative to the world around us. Throughout our history, it is people who have shaped us and who continue to do so today.

Our iconic Headingley campus was established well over 100 years ago, and is fondly remembered by all those who studied there.

Make your mark

Over 253,000 students have passed through our doors since 1824. Every single member of our alumni community has a story to tell and there are many ways to give back and make your mark.

One of the ways you can support the university is by leaving what is called a 'legacy donation' in your Will. A legacy is the greatest gift anyone can give and a donation in your Will can make a significant and lasting contribution for generations, whatever area of the university you are most passionate about supporting.

Leaving a gift in your Will doesn't need to be complicated. Below are some frequently asked questions to help you make your decision.

A.

A legacy donation can either be a sum of money or a non-monetary donation you leave in your Will. This donation can be used in any specific way you decide, or, in a flexible way if you just want it to be used for the benefit of all.

A.

Yes, there are. Legacy donations do not have to be restricted to one area of support. Leaving a legacy gift can be a very flexible way of donating. For more information, reach out to our Alumni Stewardship Officer who will be able to discuss the options with you.

A.

Actually, we are. Leeds Beckett, like many universities, holds charity exemption status. We are registered with the Fundraising Regulator. This allows us to raise money for a range of important causes including student support, groundbreaking research, and the upkeep of our facilities and campuses.

A.

No. Unlike some lifetime donations, a legacy donation does not require any formal gift agreement with the University. By specifying a legacy donation to us in your Will, this formalises your wishes and makes them legally binding when your Will comes into effect.

A.

No, you don't. Deciding to leave a gift in your Will is a very personal decision and there is no need to notify us of your intentions. If you would like to let us know, however, you can reach out to the Alumni Team on 0113 812 3147 or at alumni@leedsbeckett.ac.uk.
