Art and Design

Welcome to Art & Design 2020 at The Leeds School of Arts. Our courses at the Leeds School of Arts have a distinguished history of individual and collaborative creative endeavour, challenging the conventions and the boundaries of categorised disciplinary practice. This year our Undergraduate and Postgraduate courses in Art & Design have responded to global and local challenges by producing work that recognises the need, at this time, for a collegiate, wider community of practice. On and off campus we have continued to explore opportunities for our students to locate their practice within wider contexts, engaging in partnerships with The Arts Council, Bruntwood Developers, New Contemporaries (Leeds City Art Gallery), Space2, and The Yorkshire Sculpture Park.

Our graduating students in Fashion, Fashion Marketing, Fine Art, Graphic Arts & Design and Product Design have all risen to the unprecedented challenges of recent months, demonstrating resilience in developing and articulating their practice to their identified audiences. Our graduates talents have been recognised and exhibited as part of the Nationwide Degree Show, and one of our artists shortlisted for the New Contemporaries 2020. We have been recognised by the Royal Society of the Arts (RSA), with our student success showcased in Wallpaper magazine. Our virtual digital festival presents experimental and pioneering practice, that informs, provokes, increases awareness and engages communities. We hope you can take the time to explore the diverse portfolios of our graduates, who have highlighted the importance of the varied platforms of Art & Design at this time, in articulating their research-informed practice in 2020.
