Since I was a kid, I’ve always been fascinated by the magical worlds and mystical creatures depicted in movies; they inspired me to learn how to create my own. Studying at Leeds Beckett University I developed a love for sculpting, and finally seeing those characters come to life is an amazing experience.
I was mesmerised by the 'Na'Vi' from ‘Avatar’ (2009), and the 'Pearls' from ‘Valerian and the City of a Thousand Planets’ (2017). They are both realistic and believable to the human eye, yet beautiful, and they definitely influenced the character design for my final project. I decided that I wanted to create a highly detailed, CGI character, so I could challenge myself to apply skills even beyond those we covered at University.
The concept behind this project is the artificial creation of a living being - a ‘new and improved’ human, genetically engineered to be biologically superior - with the intention of repopulating the planet.
This was definitely a challenging project, as I took on all of the roles involved, including sculpting, texturing, animating, lighting and post-production.
Moving forward, my goal is to improve my skills further, and learn new ones so I can create more realistic and believable characters. I hope to create a name for myself in the VFX Industry as a character sculptor/modeler.
