BA (Hons) Theatre and Performance

Students on the BA (Hons) Theatre and Performance programme create exciting, innovative and cutting-edge work. As a team, we look for prospective applicants who are open-minded, and willing to explore practices that raise questions around what constitutes 21st Century art. On the Leeds School of Arts festival website, the collection of work epitomises this, and includes, body art located on Instagram, short dramas to camera, performance art, and theatre to name but a few forms. The purpose of the programme is not only for learners to formulate their own artistic practice but to also contest the boundaries of what we understand to be performance. This heavily practical programme is located firmly in professional training - students are required to make, but they are also asked to explore the cultural industries as a potential employment opportunity. Part of this involves being taught by practising artist-researchers, and on several modules, for example, ‘Collaboration’ and Pilot Project’, professional artists are employed to create and direct our students' project work. On graduation, our alumni carve out their careers as theatre and performance makers, curators, producers and teachers, who have worked and performed at international festivals.
