BSc (Hons) Games Design
Matt Cook / Games Design
Matt has just finished his BA (Hons) Games Design course.
During my time at Leeds Beckett, I realised I had 3 years of creative freedom. I knew I needed to use this time wisely and build something that could take me further after uni. In my free time, I posted frequently on Instagram uploading coursework and personal work. Finding ways to relate my coursework to my goal of getting commissions and build a following.
I got my foot in the rap scene when I was approached by a rapper called Itsoktocry. I did the artwork for his album “Destroy all monsters” which was my first big commission project. This definitely gave me the confidence that this was something I could continue doing during and after uni. At the end of 2019 I was found by Half Evil Sam, an owner of a successful streetwear brand who helped me gain new connections and offered funding for futures projects.
I'm currently working with street wear brands and musicians to bring their visions to life using skills I have learnt during my time at leeds beckett. Some of my clients now include AJ tracey, anwarcarrots, Brockhampton’s Nicksholiday, glo gang worldwide and many others that I can't disclose.
In the future I would like to continue working on commissions with musicians and brands that inspire me to create with the eventual goal of finding a job designing whilst still expanding on my own brand as an artist, hopefully getting more into toy manufacturing and clothing.
