MA Art & Design promotes multi-disciplinary experimental practices within a critical and conceptual framework. As independent practitioners and thinkers, students develop technical and theoretical skills equipping them with the necessary attributes to respond to contemporary challenges in the expanding field of art practice.

Shuma Wadud (Student)

In the last stage of my MA journey I have made more connections with my Bengali culture and heritage, and strengthened my role as a female artist in the culture, finding strength and creativity in difference. Through research my experimentation has greater purpose and confidence finding inspiration in the work of Marianne North, William Morris, Yinka Shonibare and Bangladeshi artists, especially Tayeba Begum Lipi. This research has allowed me to continue my interest in flowers, wasting nothing, disjointed patterns, and the aesthetic beauty of the natural world, all underpinned by Bengali influence.
