Transport and Getting Around

Based in the heart of the UK, Leeds has great transport links, a thriving economy, a vibrant social scene and is one of the greenest cities in Europe. It’s the perfect place to study, work and explore.

Getting around the city

Leeds is easy to navigate on foot, and the city’s strong public transport network means that you don’t need your own car to get around.

City Campus buildings are between two and 14 minutes’ walk from Leeds Station, and from Headingley train station, you could walk to Headingley Campus in 15 minutes, Carnegie Pavilion in 12 minutes and Headingley Stand in eight minutes.

It’s just a short bus ride between our two campuses, and you can download the bus timetables here.

By bike
You could hire a bike for just £35 per semester and £50 per year (plus £100 returnable deposit). We have great facilities at both campuses for cyclists, including our bike hub where you will be able to access cycle skills workshops and maintenance training, secure cycle parking, showers and lockers. Click here for more information about our cycling facilities and initiatives.

By taxi
Your welfare and safety is our priority, that’s why we continue to work with Amber Cars who will pick you up and take you home, whatever the situation – even if you find yourself without the fare. All you need to do is give your student ID or Campus Card to one of the firm’s friendly drivers and sign a receipt. You can get your card back by paying the fare at the Students’ Union within three days.

Getting to Leeds

By train
Leeds is less than two-and-a-half hours from London and there are direct train services to most major cities in the UK.

By car
You don’t need a car to access our campuses or get around Leeds, and parking on campus is extremely limited for students, unless you are a Blue Badge holder. Sometimes, driving is the only option, but you can still reduce your costs and fuel consumption. Find out more about car sharing, greener driving, car clubs and car parking on campus.

If you’re driving to campus to attend one of our events, or moving into University accommodation, we recommend using the following postcodes in your sat nav:

City Campus LS1 3HB
Headingley Campus LS16 5LF
Headingley Carnegie Stadium (Carnegie Pavilion) LS6 3DP

By air
Leeds Bradford Airport is only eight miles from City Campus and can be reached easily by bus or taxi, providing you with direct access to more than 70 European destinations, including 11 capital cities, and connecting flights to countries all across the world.
