You're a beauty buff

If you love a little pampering, Leeds is absolutely the place for you. We’ve got budget-friendly salons, huge department store beauty halls and even our very own therapy room on campus! We’re sure you’d never get tired of indulging in your passion here in Leeds, and here’s just a very, very small selection of what’s on offer:

Beauty Stores

John Lewis

Any beauty lover appreciates a department store beauty hall crammed full of luxurious brands, and the one within Leeds’ John Lewis store does not disappoint. Located within the beautiful Victoria Gate shopping centre in Leeds, it’s just a stone’s throw away from Leeds Beckett’s city campus. Step through the glass doors and you’ll find brands such as MAC, Urban Decay, Charlotte Tilbury and more.  As an added extra, John Lewis offers a ‘beauty studio’ service, where an impartial beauty expert allows you to play with products from every brand they sell. This means that you can be sure you’re being advised on what products are genuinely best for you. Cool, right?

Student recommendation:

  • Try the beauty studio service before your next big event! You can get a free consultation, a group masterclass or a one to one makeover. The masterclass and makeover costs between £15 and £35, however the price is redeemable against products, meaning you get a makeover or makeup lesson for free!

Kiko Milano

If you’ve not yet tried Kiko makeup, now is the time. This store is jam packed full of top quality makeup and other beauty goodies which are all suitable for a student budget. Their online reviews often mention how the products compare to high-end cosmetics, but without the high-end price tag. It’s definitely worth a visit the next time you’re shopping in Trinity Shopping Centre.

Student recommendation:

  • ‘If you happen to be in there when there’s a sale, you’re winning. They have been known to do a sale where you can buy 3 items and get 3 free which is perfect for you to stock up.’
NYX

You may have spotted this bright and funky brand in Boots and Superdrug stores. Well, here in Leeds we’re lucky that it has its own store, nestled in the heart of Leeds Trinity shopping centre. Step inside and be wowed by the variety of products on offer – from bold lip paints to dreamy foundations. What’s helped NYX to become so popular is that its budget friendly, while still providing the quality you’d expect from a high-end brand.

Student recommendation:

  • ‘At Christmas time, NYX often create advent calendars full of makeup miniatures. These can be quite expensive, but if you wait until mid-December, you can grab one really cheaply and have all new makeup without breaking the bank!’
Debenhams

Located on Leeds’ main shopping street, Briggate, Debenhams is always a good idea if you’re on the hunt for some new beauty goodies. They sell brands that you can’t get anywhere else in Leeds – including Too Faced, Buxom, Kat Von D and Makeup Forever. They also have a large Benefit counter where you can indulge in one of their makeup application services, a Clarins Skin Spa and Benito Brow Bar. If you join their Beauty Club, you collect points with every purchase.

The Body Shop

The Body Shop’s makeup and beauty range has something of a cult status, and for good reason. Their products are excellent quality, well-priced and are free from any cruelty to animals. Many items are vegan – including their range of fluffy brushes and their bestselling ‘Insta blur’ face primer. Their friendly staff in-store are always happy to help you, and they often host events from inside their shop on Briggate.

Events

Made Up Leeds Festival

In case you didn’t need any more convincing that Leeds is the ultimate city for those with a passion for all things beauty, we thought we’d tell you about 2018’s ‘Made Up Leeds festival’. This free, two day festival ran throughout the city centre and included makeovers, tutorials, discounts and amazing special guests. Over 90 of Leeds’ outlets got involved, and celeb guests included Andrew Barton and Ruby Hammer! We suggest keeping an eye out for any news of an event in 2019…

Salons and Treatments

Studio Sister

Based just a 5 minute walk outside of the city centre, this salon is an amazing all-rounder. Services include makeup, curly blow dries, spray tans, HD brows, lash lifts, lash extensions and more, all for excellent prices. Take a look at their Instagram feed to see what pampering you could be treated to if you were to visit.

The Glam Bar

It’s not often that a beauty salon receives all 5* reviews, but the Glam Bar does just that. Take a look at their accounts and you’ll see pictures of their beautiful glossy hair, amazing nails and flawless makeup looks. You’ll also see a lot of celebs flocking to the Glam Bar when they visit Leeds, so keep an eye out when you next visit.

Through the looking glass

Located in Hyde Park, this hair and beauty salon is great for students. It offers services such as hair, nails, facials, tanning and more – all for a really reasonable price. They regularly receive 5* reviews online, meaning you can be sure you’re going to step out of there feeling amazing.

Pastille Beauty Bar

First of all, Pastille is in a fantastic location on Granary Wharf. Step inside their luxurious salon and feel at ease before the treatments have even started! Although slightly pricier than some of the other options on this list, Pastille has an excellent reputation and this means there can be a long waiting list for treatments. They are famous for their nails, but also do hair removal, lashes and male nail services such as manicures.

Q61

This refreshingly bright city centre beauty parlour offers an array of treatments – from nails, to tanning, to lashes and more. As well as offering a 10% student discount (on certain weekdays) they also have a loyalty scheme, meaning you can collect points every time you visit.

Student recommendation:

  • Make sure you book in for your treatments mid-week, as often there’s a good discount. Also, keep an eye out for student events!
Millie's

Tucked away above a health food shop on Vicar Lane, Millie’s is a firm student favourite thanks to its fantastic 20% student discount.  You can treat yourself to a massage, facial, nails, lashes and more at Millie’s, and still have change left to try some of the yummy health food on offer downstairs. Definitely one to try when you fancy a pamper session.

The Therapy Room

This one’s pretty special as it’s based right here on Leeds Beckett’s Headingley campus! The Therapy Room offers a selection of treatments – from massage, to facials to nails and more. What’s even better is that it’s all for a bargain price, so perfect if you have a while left to wait before that next student loan payment.
