Unite Foundation Accommodation Scholarship 2020/21 launches
8 January 2020
Students who are care leavers or estranged from their family can receive free accommodation while at university through the Unite Foundation Scholarship Scheme.
The Unite Foundation is a charitable trust, focusing on enabling young people under the age of 25 to make the most of educational opportunity.
The scholarship scheme provides free accommodation for three years of undergraduate study. Seventy places are available in 2020/21 on the scholarship, which has been awarded to five Leeds Beckett students in the past two years.
Who is eligible to apply?
Emphasis is placed on supporting young people with academic ability and ambition for whom access to a secure home is particularly meaningful; students who have previously been in care or are estranged from their parents.
The full eligibility criteria for applicants are set out below:
- Aged 25 or under
- A care leaver or estranged from your family
- Starting or studying your first undergraduate degree
- Holding UK home fee status
- Applying to/studying at a partner university
The accommodation will be within a Unite Students building, and, as the UK’s leading manager and developer of student accommodation in the UK, Unite Students is also the Foundation’s principle donor.
When can students apply?
Applications for 2020/21 academic year open on 1 January 2020. Applications need to be submitted to the university in plenty of time to be checked and forwarded to the Unite Foundation before the June deadline.
