BUCS round-up week two

-

Leeds Beckett students returned to the field this week for round two of their BUCS league contests.

BUCS round-up week two

Beckett’s highlight matches of the week, Women’s Squash 1sts and Men’s Rugby Union 2nds did not disappoint as both teams claimed emphatic victories.

Beckett’s Women’s Squash dominated opponents Newcastle University 4-0 whilst the Men’s 2nd Rugby Union team ran out comprehensive 45-29 winners over the University of Glasgow.

Women’s squash headed into their contest with Newcastle University fresh off of a 3-1 rout over the University of York last week and were looking for plenty of the same this week against Newcastle University.

The Ladies followed on from last week’s rout in emphatic fashion as they left their Newcastle counterparts in their wake, making short work of their opponents in their 4-0 victory.

All four competitors, Katy Brickell, Livi Whitehouse, Katie Webb and Laura Smith, were on fire throughout their contests with all four claiming 3-0 individual victories to bring home the BUCS points for Team Beckett.

Later that afternoon it was the turn of Beckett’s 2nd Rugby Union as they faced the University of Glasgow 1sts, facing their second Scottish team in as many weeks.

Beckett came into the contest full of confidence after their 61-0 hammering of the University of St Andrew’s last week.

Beckett’s slick passing, sheer pace and ingenuity in attack saw them run riot against Glasgow in the first half opening up an emphatic 31-8 lead by half time.

Beckett looked to start the second half in confident mood with an early try giving them a 38-8 advantage but credit to Glasgow as they refused to give up on the contest.

The visitors managed to claw their way back into the game scoring 21 unanswered points to set up a nervy finish for Beckett at 38-29.

Beckett managed to hold their nerve and regained control over the contest with a last gasp try and conversion to run out 45-29 winners.

Elsewhere, Beckett’s Women’s Rugby Union made their mark on their BUCS league season edging out rivals Edge Hill University 29-26 in a pulsating fixture whilst Beckett’s men’s 1st team suffered their first loss of the season, narrowly missing out 19-16 to the University of Durham.

Another big performance in Tennis saw all of Beckett’s Men’s and Women’s teams competing on Wednesday claim victory across their ten fixtures.

Congratulations to all of our teams who competed on Wednesday for BUCS!
