LBU claim third win of the BUCS Super Rugby season
1 November 2019 - Oliver Goode
Leeds Beckett University’s BUCS Super Rugby team claimed a dominant 52-26 win at home against the University of Bath in their latest league fixture.
The team bounced back from a last minute defeat to Exeter last week with an emphatic victory over Bath that has moved them up to fourth in the league table.
Leeds Beckett University raced into an early 14-0 lead in the opening quarter through two quick-fire tries from back row star Nick Brown and centre Charlie Venables.
The two tries looked to be an early sign of dominance for LBU, but Bath managed to strike twice with two rare opportunities at the LBU line to reduce the deficit at half time, 21-12.
After a rousing half time team talk, and last week’s late defeat vividly in the team’s minds, LBU came out with a renewed attitude in the second half.
An early try from winger William Lewin sparked an onslaught by LBU which saw prop Jide Ajayi cross as well as further tries from Dixon and a hat-trick from Brown cement LBU’s 52-26 victory.
Leeds Beckett University will now turn their sights to Loughborough in next week’s game. Loughborough head in to the game having won just one game so far this year, with their victory over Cardiff last week.
Next week’s fixture with Loughborough will take place at Leeds Beckett University’s Headingley Campus, rugby pitch, kick off 14:00. Entry to the match is free for all to attend.
