Register to vote in the General Election

There will be General Election on Thursday 12 December, make sure that you have registered to vote before the deadline on 26 November.

To submit your vote, you need to register. You can register to vote by using this link to the website. It takes about 5 minutes to complete the process.

Eligible students can register to vote at both their home and term time addresses so it doesn’t matter if you’re already registered to vote at your home address. For those who have already registered to vote when you enrolled, you should not need to register again to submit your vote. Whilst you can register to vote at your home and term time address, you can only vote once. Voting in two different places is a criminal offence.

Once registered, nearer the time of the election, you will be sent a poll card through the post. Your polling station address indicating where you need to go to submit your vote should be printed on this card.

If you don’t receive a poll card, you need to contact your local council.

Polling stations are normally open from 07:00 to 22:00 on the day of the election and you must go to your assigned polling station. It is advisable to keep your poll card safe and take this with you when you go to submit your vote. If you lose this your poll card, you can still vote by giving the election officers your name and address.
