Leeds Beckett vs Manchester Metropolitan
15:00 kick off
The girls have had a tough start to their campaign, winning just one of their opening three league matches but are looking to get their season on the right tracks.
The team suffered an agonising 50-26 defeat to Birmingham last time out but had plenty of positives to take from the match.
Beckett’s only win of the season did, however, come against Manchester-based opposition as they beat the University of Manchester 55-31 at Headingley Campus.
Player focus - Beckett captain Alice Smith
Beckett scholar student - and netball captain - Alice Smith is looking forward to her return to action and is hoping the team can get back on track with a victory over Manchester.
Alice said "We’re feeling positive about the match, we’ve been looking at improve some technical aspects to our game this week and are hoping we can bring what we’ve learnt to the court,
Despite a rocky start to the season, Alice is excited by the team's dynamic - with new players coming in and the team continuing to improve in training and on court.
"The season hasn’t gone exactly as we’d have liked so far with only one win, but we are a relatively new squad so there’s new combinations all the way through the court and its something that will improve with playing together as a squad." she said
"Each week we are going out with improvements and reflections from the previous games and slowly ticking off areas of weakness,
"We are on our way to where we want to be."
Coach focus - Francine Hall
Newly appointed Beckett Netball coach Francine Hall is looking forward to seeing her team bounce back from last week's defeat.
Francine said "we are focusing on a much-improved performance from what we put out last week."
"We welcome back our captain Alice Smith who - alongside vice-captain Chloe - will be a vocal and energetic presence on court and look to lift the intensity at which we play,
"It will be another tough week for our attackers but they are gaining invaluable experience each week.
The opposition – Manchester Metropolitan University
League newcomers Manchester Metropolitan are thriving in the elite BUCS Premier North competition, having lost only one of their opening three matches.
Manchester swept all beside them last season, winning every competition they could in the process.
The club have continued their impressive form into this season as they currently sit second in the table and Beckett coach Francine isn't taking them lightly.
She said "Manchester Met are a very strong side, with a very experienced squad, who were recently promoted and are already being very successful in the premier division."
"it will be a tough outing but one we are looking forward to."
Alice also isn't taking the team lightly and is aware of the threat they pose
Alice said "they are a strong opposition with some good experienced players,
"They’ve had convincing wins so far this season which again highlights the strengths in their squad."
