It was a successful week of fixtures for Leeds Beckett’s sports teams as we head towards the final stages of the BUCS season.

BUCS Championship Cup final beckons for Carnegie American Football

The team will appear in their first ever Championship Cup final after their impressive 46-35 victory over the University of West England last weekend.

The enthralling contest, which saw both teams exchange the lead on six occasions, saw Carnegie advance to the biggest final in university American football.

The team finished second in the BUCS Premier North division this season, winning five of their eight league fixtures, and have impressed throughout the play-offs on their road to the Championship Cup final.

Carnegie have defeated two of the best teams from the BUCS Premier Southern Division, Birmingham (19-0) and the BUCS Premier South league champions the University of West England on their way to the final.

Beckett will face-off against the University of Hertfordshire in the final on Sunday 31 March, Loughborough.

Rugby league reach unprecedented fifteenth BUCS Championship final

Leeds Beckett’s men’s rugby league team sealed their place in the BUCS Championship final with a hard-fought victory away at Exeter.

The team claimed a 36-6 victory over their opponents to set up a mouth-watering clash against fierce rivals Northumbria.

Northumbria edged Leeds Beckett to the top of the BUCS league table and defeated Beckett in both league fixtures this season, but anything goes in a final.

Beckett have a long standing history in the Championship, having competed in the past fourteen finals, and winning a record-breaking twelve.

Northumbria, however, have clawed the gap in recent years having won the last two cup finals in 2017 and 2018 and will be looking to extend their run.

Beckett take on Northumbria in the final on Wednesday 27 March.

Netball complete unbeaten fairy-tale season

Leeds Beckett’s second team finished their incredible league season in style with their 75-24 demolition over the University of Chester.

Beckett, who were crowned Northern 2A league champions this year, also made it all the way to the Northern Conference Cup Final, narrowly losing out to Yorkshire rivals the University of Sheffield.

Rugby Union seal crucial home tie for BUCS Super Rugby quarter final

Leeds Beckett’s BUCS Super Rugby team clinched a dramatic bonus point victory over Durham to guarantee a home fixture in next week’s showdown with Cardiff Metropolitan University.

Beckett defeated Durham 26-14 to finish fourth in the table, as well as maintain their unbeaten record in their last nine fixtures – a record best for the club.

The team looked to be on course for a long trip down to Wales, but a last gasp try sealed the extra bonus point Beckett needed to rise above Cardiff in the table.

The team will face-off at Leeds Beckett’s Headingley Campus next Wednesday, kick-off 14:00.

Hockey third teams claim big wins to keep title hopes alive

The women dominated Bradford 9-2, while the men claimed a 3-0 whitewash over Sheffield to keep both teams’ chances of winning their leagues alive.

The women are one point behind first place Durham, who have played all of their league fixtures this season. The team will take part in an epic final league game against fierce rivals the University of Leeds next week, with the winner guaranteed first place in the league.

Meanwhile, the men’s team will entertain bottom of the league Huddersfield on campus. A win for the team will guarantee Beckett the league title, as they sit two points behind Bradford who have played all of their league fixtures.

American Football set for Championship semi-final in Bristol

Leeds Beckett’s American Football club will face-off this Sunday against the University of West England in the semi-final of the Championship Cup.

Beckett, who finished second in the Premier North league competition, brushed aside the University of Birmingham 19-0 to seal their place in this weekend’s competition.

Victory over UWE would set up a huge final for the team between either the University of Swansea or the University of Hertfordshire.

Women’s football finish season in second

The university’s third team ended their season with a 4-1 rout over Newcastle University to claim second place in the BUCS Northern 3B league.

The club have enjoyed a successful season having claimed second in the league as well as making it to the semi-finals of the Northern Conference Cup competition.

Women’s Lacrosse first team vs University of Leeds

Leeds Beckett’s Lacrosse team will host inter-city rivals the University of Leeds for their final home game of the season, with bragging rights on the line for both teams.

Beckett, who currently sit fifth in the league standings below Leeds, will look to finish their season on a high.
