Leeds Bradford MCCU to face Oxford MCCU in BUCS Final
25 June 2019
Leeds Beckett University students will compete in the BUCS Cricket Final on Wednesday 26 June for Leeds Bradford MCCU against Oxford MCCU.
The Leeds Bradford Marylebone Cricket Club University team includes students from Leeds Beckett University, the University of Leeds and Bradford University.
The MCCU programme helps develop elite level cricketers studying at university and offers support for players looking to sign with county cricket clubs while providing an education to support them for life after cricket.
Leeds Bradford MCCU Head Coach Andrew Lawson has orchestrated a strong season for the Leeds Bradford team, guiding them to the MCCU Championship and the upcoming BUCS final.
Andrew said: “The team is excited to be back in the BUCS Final, as the last time we made it was in 2016 and we won on that day.”
“Everyone is excited as we have a chance to win the double this year having already won the MCCU Championship.”
The MCCU season is made up of three day matches against the counties and other MCCU teams, BUCS 50 over matches as well as T20 fixtures. The different formats help prepare MCCU players for all different variations of cricket if they go on to sign with County Cricket teams.
The 13-man squad for the BUCS final includes five Leeds Beckett players including: Saad Ashraf, Dan Houghton, Josh Holling, James Keast and Ben Pearson.
