Mixed success for LBU in Leeds Varsity Cross Country
24 January 2020
Leeds Beckett University’s Cross Country squad were narrowly beaten in the first event of the 2020 Leeds Varsity calendar.
The event saw both men’s and women’s teams compete against their University of Leeds counterparts in the 6km Cross Country race.
The women’s team were narrowly beaten by the University of Leeds, while the men’s competition resulted in a draw.
The scoring system awards three points to winning teams and one point for a draw, adopting a similar model to the one used in the Premier League.
The day resulted in the University of Leeds claiming four points while LBU claimed one for their draw, giving LBU’s rivals the early advantage.
LBU Athletics Head Coach Andrew Henderson said “I was very pleased with the women’s performance, despite their defeat.
“The men were disappointed with their result, but we will move forward and get the team prepared for the next round of events.”
The club will next compete at the BUCS Cross Country Championships in Edinburgh on Saturday 1 February before they take part in the BUCS Indoor Championships from Friday 14 February.
