Google Ads provides a platform to rapidly drive traffic to your website and see your site listed on the first page of Google’s search results. This workshop will introduce you to the different campaigns you can run through Google Ads, how to set up a basic campaign, choosing the right keywords and how to manage and optimise your existing campaigns to ensure long-term profitability.

By the end of the session you should have an understanding of how Google Ads works and how to maintain basic campaigns.

  • An introduction to Google Ads and Pay-per-click (PPC) advertising
  • Google Ads campaign structure (campaigns, ad groups, keywords).
  • Ad types (video, search, display)
  • Keyword matching options (broad, phrase, exact, negative).
  • Keyword and competitor research.
  • Google Ads Quality Score – how it’s calculated and what it means for your campaigns.
  • Writing compelling Ads
  • Setting up conversion tracking – what you can track.
  • Tracking and improving performance.
  • What happens when you’re ads get disapproved – Google’s Policies (trademark / acceptable use / prohibited items).

  • How to find your way around the platform and your account
  • How to create a basic search campaign
  • How to read and interpret reports and make changes to optimise a campaign

An experienced digital marketing specialist and Member of the Chartered Institute of Marketing, Heather Robinson has over a decade of experience developing marketing strategies for businesses large and small.

In 2012, Heather set up ‘Skittish’, a boutique digital marketing consultancy, working with a range of B2B and B2C clients in diverse sectors from non-profit and social enterprise to manufacturing and retail. Passionate about helping businesses achieve their goals and making digital marketing accessible to everyone, Heather is well placed to offer superior advice and expertise alongside hands-on, interactive training for business owners and marketing professionals to really get to grips with the fundamentals of search engine optimisation and promoting their business online.

Heather has a first-class degree in Marketing from the University of Leeds, a Certificate in Web Application Development and is currently studying part time for an MSc in Digital Marketing at Manchester Metropolitan University. Heather is also a published author of several books including ‘Essential Online Advertising’, ‘Search Engine Optimisation: The Basics’, ‘Easy Business Blogging’ and ‘Email Marketing Success’ aimed at small business owners taking on the challenge of promoting themselves.
