Social media is no longer a “nice to have” marketing activity; it plays a key role in businesses across many sectors and has become crucial to forming new relationships, increasing brand awareness and managing your online reputation.
In this full day workshop, we explore the current landscape of social media marketing, the platforms being used by your target audience and how best to embrace social media for your organisation.
The day will cover four key platforms (Facebook, Instagram, Twitter and LinkedIn), with plenty of opportunity for discussion around your objectives, concerns or general queries.
On completion you will be able to:
- Justify the use of social media for your business
- Identify the platforms you need to utilise to reach your target audience
- Understand the basics of how the four main social platforms work (Facebook, Instagram, Twitter and LinkedIn)
- Be comfortable in creating content for social media platforms
Business owners and marketers who are new to social media for business and want to utilise it in their marketing activities, but are unsure where to start.
Basic IT skills.
You will also require the following IT set-up:
- A good internet connection – minimum speed of 1.6mb
- Google Chrome or Firefox as the internet browser
- A USB headset with microphone

Attending the course
We are online from 09:15 using the video conferencing software Zoom.
We’re based in the centre of Leeds at Broadcasting Place, and we have cutting-edge facilities including the Development Studio for desktop, web and mobile platforms. The studio draws on academics with extensive high-level industrial experience in advanced programming techniques and world-class creative digital content essential to success in the creative digital industries.
Trainer & Reviews
An experienced digital marketing specialist and Member of the Chartered Institute of Marketing, Heather Robinson has over a decade of experience developing marketing strategies for businesses large and small.
In 2012, Heather set up ‘Skittish’, a boutique digital marketing consultancy, working with a range of B2B and B2C clients in diverse sectors from non-profit and social enterprise to manufacturing and retail. Passionate about helping businesses achieve their goals and making digital marketing accessible to everyone, Heather is well placed to offer superior advice and expertise alongside hands-on, interactive training for business owners and marketing professionals to really get to grips with the fundamentals of search engine optimisation and promoting their business online.
Heather has a first-class degree in Marketing from the University of Leeds, a Certificate in Web Application Development and is currently studying part time for an MSc in Digital Marketing at Manchester Metropolitan University. Heather is also a published author of several books including ‘Essential Online Advertising’, ‘Search Engine Optimisation: The Basics’, ‘Easy Business Blogging’ and ‘Email Marketing Success’ aimed at small business owners taking on the challenge of promoting themselves.
