Leeds Beckett University offers a number of training courses for staff ranging from face-to-face sessions to online modules.  These training courses are hosted by our Equality & Diversity Team or Student Services.

Plus Icon Autism Awareness
An interactive session providing staff with an introduction to autism with top tips for supporting students to enable their successful participation and engagement on their course.
Plus Icon Dementia Friends Information Session

Learn more about dementia in this face-to-face session, how to access support and further resources and how you can help create dementia friendly communities.

Plus Icon Funding for students without parental support

This face-to-face session will consider support for those students that lack parental support, focusing in particular on the financial implications and associated difficulties.

Plus Icon Introduction to Disability Awareness
By completing this online module you will have a greater awareness of your role in relation to supporting disabled students and a greater understanding of support available to disabled students attending our University.  (To access this course, log in to Essential Skillz and select 'other courses').
Plus Icon Introduction to Equality and Diversity
This face-to-face session will cover what this means for you as a member of staff, what you need to know about the Equality Act and what you can do to create an inclusive environment for your colleagues and students.
Plus Icon Mediation Skills

This face-to-face session will identify the causes and cost of conflict in the workplace and explores a range of mediation skills.

Plus Icon Mental Health Awareness Supporting Students

Online module aiming to enable participants to -

  • Feel more confident in identifying signs of mental distress and possible mental health difficulties; 
  • Develop greater confidence in responding to concerns about a student's mental well-being;
  • Develop knowledge of the support available for staff to help manage often complex and difficult situations.

Plus Icon Sensory Impairment Hearing Awareness

A face-to-face session, providing staff with an introduction to hearing impairments and giving practical tips for working with students and staff who are deaf or hard of hearing.

Plus Icon Sensory Impairment Visual Awareness

A face-to-face session providing staff with an introduction to visual impairments and giving practical tips for working with students and staff with sight loss.

Plus Icon Trans Awareness in Higher Education

This face-to-face session provides an informal space to learn about the basics of trans issues and how they are relevant to staff and students in higher education.

Plus Icon Unconscious Bias

This online module will introduce you to the idea of unconscious or 'hidden' bias and how it can impact on the workplace.  (To access this course, log in to Essential Skillz and select 'other courses').
