Use of Spatial Data to Characterise the Retail Food Environment: Evaluation of Methods

The Challenge

The ‘Retail Food Environment’ (RFE), encompassing the available opportunities to purchase foods within the local environment, is increasingly being targeted as a lever to tackle obesity. However, research supporting a link between the RFE and obesity is conflicting. This may be partly due to the many and varied methods used to measure the RFE.

The Approach

This project seeks to gain a better understanding of the importance of methods and their impact on findings.

The Impact

Findings from this project will support better collation and translation of existing evidence and more informed selection of methods in future research.
