knowledge exchange

Find out about our university's Higher Education Innovation Funding (HEIF) Plan and allocation and information on our Knowledge Exchange Framework Metrics and Knowledge Exchange Concordat.

HEIF Accountability Statement (5 year plan)

Higher Education Innovation Funding (HEIF) is a national pot supported by UKRI Research England to fund knowledge exchange activities between higher education institutions and the wider world and which support and result in benefits to society and the economy.

HEIF Funding is awarded to LBU based on our performance in knowledge exchange. This performance is currently informed and monitored through the annual Higher Education Business and Community Interaction (HEBCI) data collected by HESA.

The 5-year plan details how we will spend our HEIF allocation in relation to the strategic focus of the university on Knowledge Exchange activities. We are required to evidence a robust and SMART plan that demonstrates value for money and clear accountability.

HEIF is being reviewed in future years with the introduction of both the KEF and Knowledge Exchange Concordat (KEC) and will run concurrently with these two for the time being.

Knowledge Exchange Framework (KEF)

The KEF was announced as part of the government’s Industrial Strategy and is intended to create a more robust means for assessing and awarding funding for research and knowledge exchange. The main aim is to create a culture of continuous improvement in English universities’ abilities to maintain and develop world leading knowledge exchange activities.

KEF has two strands:

  1. Knowledge exchange framework: Dashboard - select Leeds Beckett University on the site to view our metrics performance for KEF 3
  2. Leeds Beckett University (LBU) - kef.ac.uk University Narratives for KEF 3

Moving forwards these two KEF strands will be used to assess and measure the quality, quantity and veracity of knowledge exchange at English universities and may replace HEIF. For the time being HEIF and KEF will run concurrently while KEF develops and embeds.
