Pure and applied knowledge
Our research is focused on the production of pure and applied knowledge that contributes to the creation and management of a sustainable built environment. The focus of our activities is on low carbon housing, sustainable water supplies and construction materials for the developing world, construction industry knowledge exchange and planning policy. The School draws together expertise in sustainability research with the aim of building a record of research that is focused on the technological and social aspects of sustainable urbanism.
Research in the School of the Built Environment and Engineering is organised through research clusters and themes that focus on providing high quality research activity and outputs across a range of disciplinary areas. Through our research themes and clusters and the Institute, the School pursues high-quality built environment research that underpins a core aim to provide research, education and training, focused on the creation and management of a more sustainable built environment.
