Current students work with Leeds Beckett Graduate filmmakers
Volume Film is a film company set up by Joel Earnshaw (pictured below), BA (Hons) Media Communications Cultures, and Jordan Hunt-Brown, BA (Hons) Filmmaking, who met during their time studying at Leeds Beckett.
Having set up their business in 2018 they returned to the University to pass on their experience to first year students. They tasked students on the BA (Hons) Media Communication Cultures course to come up with a promotional video idea for a local business. The winning team joined Joel and Jordan on the promotional video shoot for the chosen business, Dry Dock in Leeds.
Lucas Todd was a member of the winning team whose pitch was chosen:
“We attended the lecturer and after listening to Joel and Jordan we got the opportunity to pitch an idea for a promotional film for a local business, what we would like to see in it with our ideas. I was in a group so got some ideas on paper like a storyboard, we had about 45 minutes to do this and then we presented in the lecture hall to Joel and Jordan. I remember thinking that I wasn’t that confident that it was that good but thank god we got the opportunity and I am very grateful for the opportunity.”
Lucas was not only thrilled to be a part of the winning team but loved the opportunity to attend the shoot at the Dry Dock:
“I feel I’ve learnt a lot about camera shots and speaking to Joel and Jordan about their experiences they have had in the industry – it’s been a good experience.
It was a great opportunity to get first-hand experience in the media industry and thought it would make a great addition to my CV. I feel like it will give me a step up, compared to everyone who didn’t have this kind of experience on their CV.“
