Eleanor Anderson | Mapping Tourism Recovery: A supply side analysis of Cape Breton Island’s path toward a stronger more sustainable future

Supervisors: Professor Neelu Seetaram and Dr Elisa Burrai

Eleanor is a full-time off-shore PhD student in the Centre for Tourism and Hospitality Management.

My research concentrates on understanding the attitudes, intentions and barriers of tourism’s supply-side through a sustainability lens, as destinations reset post COVID-19. Utilizing Cape Breton Island (Canada) as a case study, a research framework will be designed and applied to understand the perceptions and behaviours by industry operators, the DMO, and the four levels of government – Municipal, Provincial, Federal, and Indigenous. By studying both Indigenous and non-Indigenous tourism decision-makers and critically analyzing their distinct approaches to tourism planning, I will draw upon a shared learning approach to tourism development.
