Our initiatives and partnerships have impact beyond academia and our work with diverse organisations ensures our students gain vital experience in their chosen field.
I am pleased to be part of the positive steps being taken by the School to promote diversity in the travel and tourism sectors.
We promote stakeholder engagement and we are endorsed by those who share our ambition to improve the world through events, tourism and hospitality education and research.
Our colleagues are invited to undertake national and international leadership roles for influential industry and academic associations.
I was delighted to be asked to join the REF panel again. It gives me an opportunity to contribute to national research evaluation, the outcome of which will influence tourism research over the next six or seven years.
I co-ordinate this SIG with Davide Sterchele. It’s a way of advancing critical thinking and impactful research on volunteer tourism. The international engagement secured so far suggests we are making an impact.
As one of the UK’s leading providers of tourism education, it’s important that we contribute to the national agenda of tourism education and research. The work I do with the ITT reflects a long-standing relationship between our school and the institute. We have been instrumental in establishing national awards, centres of excellence and much closer links between higher education and industry.
Perhaps the most obvious sign of our school’s positive collaboration with ABPCO is the leadership we provided for the creation of a membership category dedicated to universities and centres of excellence. It’s an honour to contribute to the work of a forward-looking events association.
The International Association for Tourism Economics is the leading independent global community for the discussion, exchange and development of knowledge in the field of tourism economics. It’s important our school to be part of this if we are to maintain our international reputation.
I created this SIG so that events scholars with an interest in marketing had a platform to share their work with a wider network of internationally leading marketing scholars. It is great that so many collaborations have emerged from the group.
Our courses are highly regarded by industry. We are an Institute of Travel and Tourism (ITT) and an Association of British Professional Conference Organisers (ABPCO) Centre of Excellence, have United Nations TEDQual accreditation for our responsible tourism management provision and our hospitality management degrees are recognised by the Institute of Hospitality.
